Artist Profile - Tracy Owen-CullimorePosted:04/07/2011 9:28 AM
Recognized mainly for her figurative abstracts, Tracy Owen-Cullimore is a multi-talented, award winning painter and silversmith. Her art is in private collections throughout Florida, Colorado, North Carolina and California. She has exhibited extensively throughout the United Sates and also internationally in London and Germany.
After graduating from the University of California, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Art History and Economics, Tracy pursued formal training in Advertising Design. Currently, she practices her art in southwest Florida where she resides.
“I am not the reporter with a camera, but the artist with a brush,” Tracy tells us in her Artist’s Statement. “My mission as an artist is to change what you see to what I want you to see. Using color and light, I reshape my subject as I see fit, as opposed to simply duplicating the apparent. I reach beyond the likeness to the inner essence, and the result is a piece that reflects the beauty of the subject as well as draws the viewer in.”
Lately, Tracy is becoming known for her realism portraiture artwork, winning additional awards in this area. Her Pet Portraits are completely hand painted originals - not photo-shopped - done in watercolor, oil and/or charcoal from candid photos.
One of the most outstanding characteristics of Tracy’s portraits, be they human or animal, is the unique way she captures the personality of her subject in the painting. You will not find a stiff “posed” look in any of her work. Each portrait appears to be caught on the verge of communicating to the viewer – sometimes asking a question, other times making a subtle statement.
Not content with simply being a talented painter, Tracy also works in silver, creating one of a kind jewelry pieces and individualized gifts that reflect timeless beauty.
Tracy donates her time and talent as well as numerous pieces of art to national and local charities frequently.
She is a member of the American Impressionists Society, the Art League of Fort Myers, the Florida Watercolor Society, the Fort Myers Alliance for the Arts, Fort Myers Beach Art Association, the Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida and Sanibel Captiva Art League.
